   Dig 4 Jimmy Surf N Turf Family Event Was A Big Success!

The Dig 4 Jimmy is a unique event combining a surf contest and a volleyball tournament to raise funds for kids of need.

The turn-out was fantastic, the weather was great and everyone had a great time.  Looking forward to next year!

Dig for Kids has a new website, Dig 4 Kids.  Please check it out.  We are a volunteer based Education Foundation so we appreciate all of your help and support.

Dig 4 Kids and the Jimmy Miller Foundation teamed up for the 2nd Annual Dig 4 Jimmy.

The event is a surfing contest and a four man volleyball competition.  The four person

teams compete in surfing and were judged on one wave in a 20 minute heat.  Then, the

same team plays in pool play to advance to a four team playoff, semis and then the final.

The goal of the event is to bring family and friends together to enjoy a day at the beach.

win your own tournament.

The goal of the event is very simple and selfless.  We want our family, extended family, friends, kids and community to come down to the beach to watch and/or participate an event that is fun for the whole family.  I had a twelve year old boy, Casey McGarry set me in four man volleyball.  He is good setter but more importantly he set an Olympic Gold Medalist to win the volleyball portion.  He will remember that Sunday for a long time and I hope he is motivated to do great things in volleyball and life.  Enough tooting my own horn but I enjoy motivating kids.  At the awards banquet, Casey had a smile ear to ear.  It was really cute to see.

Dig for Kids After School Program “Digging Education”

• Dig for Kids After School Program is making a difference one child at a time
• On Wednesday, we completed our 37th Digging Education program by teaching kids the importance of education and exercise.
• Did you know that in the US, we have over 1 million students drop-out of school every year?

• Over 6000 students a day or one student every 29 seconds. It’s worse for at-risk kids. The students from low-income families are 2.4 times more likely to become a “drop-out” than children of middle-income families and 10 times likelier than children of high-income families.

Dig For Kids After School Program plays an important role to help underserved children.

Are “Drop-outs” an urban or inner city problem?

• Children who drop-out of school have social implications like stress and frustration associated with their choices. Our nation’s prisons are made up of “drop-outs”. High school “dropouts” make up 82% of the America prison population.
• “Drop-outs” are eight times more likely to be in jail or prison than high school graduates
• More likely to make almost $10,000 less per year than high school graduates and live in poverty
